Accessible Taxis
"The ability to travel is critical to the social inclusion of disabled people. Without it, disabled people are denied access to life opportunities."

Susie Fitton, Senior Policy Advisor for Capability Scotland

'Still Stranded' - are Scotland's taxis genuinely accessible?

Every two months Capability will be bringing you a Rapid Response Report on the issues that matter most to disabled people. This month's report is on disabled people's experience of using accessible taxis in Scotland.

Research performed by Capability in 2004 found that 1 in 5 disabled people used taxis or private hire cars as a regular form of transport. Cost, accessibility and driver assistance were, however, key barriers for disabled passengers. Anecdotal evidence suggests that, five years on, the situation has not improved.
