Capability's Training and Consultancy Team can assist you with any issue relating to disability equality including:
- Equality and Diversity Impact Assessment
- Complying with the Disability Equality Duty.
- Involving disabled people in improing your services.
- Making policies inclusive.
- Mainstreaming disability equality throughout your organisation's policies and practices.
- Using positive language throughout your organisation's documents.
- Holding disability open days to raise awareness amongst staff.
A very popular area of our consultancy service is the hosting of involvement events for public bodies.
The Disability Discrimination Act 2005 Public Sector Duty, or Disability Equality Duty, requires public bodies to involve disabled people in policy development and impact assessment.
We can help public bodies meet this duty in a variety of ways, including hosting events with disabled people and providing you with a detailed report of discussions.
Organisations we have hosted involvement events for include:
• The Judicial Appointment Board for Scotland
• The Law Society
• Audit Scotland (four events over 2008 and 2009)
• Skills Development Scotland
• The Co-operative Travel group
• Lothian and Borders Police
• VisitScotland
• Highland and Islands Enterprise
This is what Elspeth MacArthur, board member of the Judicial Appointments Board said of the event we held for them in March 2009:
“The involvement event run for us by Capability Scotland was hugely important to our impact assessment of the new procedures – we received very high quality input and advice which we were able to put to practical use. And for those of us, like me, who were there and participated, the day was both very instructive and enjoyable!”.
