We have a team of trainers based all around Scotland who deliver high quality, practical and constructive disability equality training. The team speaks from experience as each trainer is a disabled person with first hand experience of the barriers that prevent disabled people from fully participating in society.
Capability Scotland believes that it is of utmost importance that disability equality training is delivered by disabled people. There are several reasons for this:
- It is important that the trainers have experience and understanding of the disabling barriers in society and the issues being explored in the training
- The trainers are able to use anecdotes from their personal experience to illustrate points in the training
- Many people do not have experience of interacting with disabled people. We find that delegates often mention the opportunity to interact with the disabled trainers as being one of the elements that they found most useful in the training.
Our training can equip participants with the confidence and understanding required to provide a good quality service to disabled people. It can also help you keep pace with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, both as an employer and as a service provider.
Capability's disability equality training is very flexible and we tailor each session to the individual requirements of our client. We have 20 training modules that we can combine in any formation to provide disability equality training sessions focusing on different issues, either in a half day or a full day.
The ideal number of delegates to attend a disability equality training session is 12. This number enables effective group work, good interaction with the trainers and allows for participation by each delegate. In exceptional circumstances we will accommodate up to 16 if the training venue is big enough, but this is not recommended.
