Employment Development Services
Capability Scotland offers a wide range of services that support disabled people into employment. Our Employment Service help people to develop the skills and confidence they need to find the kind of work they would like.
We work closely in partnership with others and use our own skills resources and contacts to help Service Users enjoy new opportunities and eventually work in their chose occupation.
We offer a range of Employment Service Programmes:
- Individual training and employment packages - all Service Users are supported by an Employment Service Officer who works closely with them to develop skills that will help them realise their employment goals.
- WORKSTEP Programme - this programme provides practical support for Employers, Employees and disabled people those seeking work.
- Work Preparation Programme - this service provides short work placements, for Service Users giving them the opportunity to build their confidence and skills. Programme lasts up to 6 weeks.
- Work Preparation – Personal Development Planning Course - this course provides training and support for Service Users who want to get back on the first step of the ladder to gain employment. Course is delivered 5 days over 3 week period, and 7 themes are covered during this time, Confidence Building, Assertiveness and Positive Thinking, Setting Goals, Skills Audit, Communication, Disability Awareness and Related Issues and Coping Skills. Courses are held in local areas.
- Job Search – job clubs are held in each area on a 2 weekly basis. Individual jobsearch is also undertaken. This service provides support and guidance for Service Users wishing to gain employment.
- ST Jude Laundry: 75% of this supported businesses employers are people with disabilities, supported by the Workstep programme. St Judes provides employment and progression opportunities to our supported employees.
- Café Mistura – this is a training facility for disabled people who live in West Lothian. Training in given in hospitality and catering and service users access college modules.
- Whitehaugh and West Lane Gardens – based in Renfrewshire provides a day service that includes employment opportunities for disabled adults. Assistance is given to allow service users become more independent, move into voluntary work, employment or access college opportunities.
- Renfrewshire Work 4 All – provides support to families of children with additional support needs to access employment, training and voluntary opportunities.

- Central and West Lothian
- Glasgow
- Edinburgh and Lothians
- Lanark
- Highlands, Islands and Grampian
- Borders
- Orkney
- Broxburn – Café Mistura
- Paisley – Whitehaugh and Renfrewshire Work 4 All
- Johnstone – West Lane Gardens
