Capability's Director elected to SCVO Management Board
25 November 2011
Richard Hamer, Capability Scotland's Director of External Affairs was elected to the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisation (SCVO) Management Board during its annual general meeting last Wednesday, 23 November.
SCVO is the umbrella body for voluntary organisations in
Scotland, whose mission is to support people to help themselves and
promote social change. SCVO works in partnership with a
variety of third sector organisations, and campaigns to advance the
interest of member organisations and the communities they
support.
Dr. Alison Elliot, SCVO Convener, said during the meeting:
"From the Cabinet Secretary for Finance to the Chief Medical
Officer, there is recognition that voluntary organisations are well
placed to unlock the assets of our communities and at helping
people to help themselves.
The third sector plays an extensive and ever growing role in
care, often reducing demand for more expensive institutional
services.
We need to have people firing on all cylinders just now, so
let's keep up the good work and leverage every single untapped
resource that could be developed for the benefit of our people.
They are our greatest asset after all."
Richard Hamer said:
"I am honoured to have been elected on to the SCVO Management
Board. SCVO plays a crucial role in promoting the work of the
third sector in Scotland and provides a vital platform for member
organisations to work together to achieve a common
goal. I look forward to working with the SCVO
Management Board and staff in the coming months and years to ensure
the long term sustainability of the third sector and the support
these organisations provide to the people of Scotland."
Richard will also serve on SCVO Policy Committee.
