Scottish Government Partnership helps heat homes this winter
8 November 2011
Capability Scotland is working with the Scottish Government to promote a helpline aimed at helping households, including those with a disabled person, cut their fuel bills this winter.
The Home Energy Scotland Hotline aims to help families stay warm
by providing advice and information on how insulation can help save
energy and money.
Callers to the hotline can find out what type and level of
insulation they have in their homes, and whether they could do with
an extra layer. Even just a loft top up, can mean a £50 per year
reduction on energy bills. Some callers may even be eligible for
free or discounted loft and cavity wall insulation thanks to
funding from the Scottish Government.
Capability Director of External Affairs, Richard
Hamer, commented:
"The huge increases in energy costs we have seen over the last
few months mean that disabled people are even more at risk of fuel
poverty than ever. Government figures show 50% of families
which include a disabled person have a household income of less
than £15,000 per year. For many keeping warm can be a real
struggle. We are delighted to have the opportunity to support the
Scottish Government with this initiative which will hopefully take
some of the strain off families during the cold winter months."
