Something's cooking at Corseford as MP goes back to school

6 February 2012

An MP got a taste of life at Capability's Corseford School in Kilbarchan on Friday (3rd February).

Douglas Alexander, MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire South, visited the School's new Post Sixteen Unit (PSU) kitchen which opened at the end of last year.

The state-of-the-art kitchen, which was funded by Corseford's Parent Council, is used by the school's senior pupils to help them develop some of the daily living skills they will need when they leave school.

During the visit, pupils demonstrated how the kitchen's accessible features including: a fully automated rise and fall work surface; a pull out pantry and fridge and height adjustable tables, are helping them to cook and plan meals independently.

Capability Head Teacher, Sue Williams commented: "We are happy to welcome Douglas Alexander to Corseford and give him the opportunity to see this fabulous facility for himself.  The pupils are showing off the skills they have already developed thanks to the new kitchen."

Mr Alexander said:

"I am delighted to visit Capability Scotland's Corseford School and particularly the new state-of-the-art kitchen. It's a huge step for young people who may be about to leave the school and perhaps live independently on their own for the first time. This excellent teaching facility will provide a vital part in developing some of the valuable daily life skills with confidence."
