Capability Scotland Shop Volunteer honoured by Queen

30 June 2017

Many congratulations to Fiona Russell who became a Medallist of the Order of the British Empire (BEM) in the recent Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Fiona has volunteered at Capability Scotland's Morningside shop for 24 years and received her BEM in recognition of her services to charity in Edinburgh.
She admits that the award came "completely out of the blue" but was a lovely surprise. "I'm honoured to be getting it, it's something special".
Fiona started shop volunteering with Scope in London and joined Capability Scotland when she returned to her native Edinburgh. She really enjoys volunteering at the shop. "You meet all sorts of people in Morningside" she says. "Everyone goes to a charity shop. People donate a lot and are very kind."
Thank you Fiona for all your hard work over the years and congratulations on your very well-deserved honour!
