Futures Fair 2011
Now in its third year, The Futures Fair returns to East Lothian!
Over the past 2 years 295 young people, family members and
professionals have come along to the fair to find out more about
opportunities for life after school.
The fair, a partnership between Capability Scotland and East
Lothian Council, was created to help young disabled people, and
their families, to take power and plan for their future
themselves.
The Futures Fair provides a one-stop shop for young people and
their families to gather information and advice, and plan for
themselves. Around 60 organisations have stands at the fair,
and 2011 looks set to be bigger and better than ever before!
Young people can find out about areas such as:
- work and training
- college
- money
- day opportunities
- health and social work
- leisure and much more!
In addition, 2011 will have a 'Been There, Done That!' stand
where young people who have left school already will be on-hand to
share their experience and tell people about what they've gone on
to do, and show a film of their stories. We'll also have free
refreshments and a quiet chill out zone, and possibly even a return
of the animal personality test!
The complete guide to this year's
Futures Fair is now available to download! 2011 will
officially be the biggest fair yet, with 65 organisations taking
part. We'll have 15 brand new organisations this year, such
as the FLIP family-led information point group, and Edinburgh's
Teens+ transitional education programme. We'll also have
adapted bikes for you to try out, and a film showing what East
Lothian young people did when they left school. Looking
forward to seeing you there!
Drop in anytime between 2.30 and 6.30pm, Thursday
10th November, at The Corn Exchange in
Haddington.
