Winter Appeal
As a wheelchair user, to have led a team to the summit of Ben Nevis still seems surreal!
In my world, achieving something like this is
extraordinary. Thanks to you, and the Bowmore Ben Nevis
Challenge, I did it.
I'm Rosie. I'm 24 and I have Cerebral Palsy. I have to use a stick
to walk short distances - like getting around the house - and I use
a wheelchair for longer distances - like shopping with friends.
One wet morning in August I took part in a Capability Challenge
event sponsored by Bowmore Single Malt Whisky. Using a
specially adapted wheelchair, I led a team of 5 non-disabled people
to the top of Scotland's highest mountain. And we
made it!
I know that giving someone a new opportunity can change their
life. That's why I'm asking you to give £25 to help other people
overcome their own challenges in 2012 whether these are at home, at
work or at school. For example:
At Home - Alan moved into his own flat last
year and he's now so much more independent. Although he's in
a wheelchair and has limited mobility, he can use special switches
to do everyday things like turn on the lights, use the phone and
watch TV. He's also getting out and about more and loves
entertaining family in his own place.
At Work - After two and a half years off,
because of her disability, Sandra started back at work last
year. She'd lost a lot of confidence and was worried she
might not be able hold down a job again. But with a bit of
support she's back, and loving it!
At School - Erin and Eoghan, both 15 years old,
produced winning Christmas card designs. Their pictures were
so good, they were on sale in Capability shops. That means their
artwork was displayed in homes across Scotland. - How many 15 year
olds do you know who can say that!
Your gift will give a disabled person the opportunity to do
something extraordinary this year. Can you spare £25 to give
someone like me that chance?
Now I've conquered Ben Nevis I know so many things are possible
for me, and I'm now looking at new challenges I can tackle.
The Bowmore Ben Nevis Challenge was a fantastic experience for
me, and everyone else who took part. I want to give someone
else the opportunity to overcome their personal challenges, and
with the support of people like you and me, I know this is
possible. I'm proud to know that, through my
fundraising, I'm giving someone an opportunity they never thought
they'd have. There can't be many better gifts than
that. Will you join me by making a donation today?
