Professor Sandy Cameron CBE (Chair)
Sandy is a graduate of Strathclyde and Aberdeen Universities and
is a qualified social worker. He worked in Central Region in a
number of roles until he became Director of Social Work for Borders
Regional Council in 1987. In 1995, he was appointed as the
first Executive Director of Social Work for the then new South
Lanarkshire Council. Over the years, he has chaired the
Scottish Committee of the Social Work Training Council, been Chair
of the Centre for Residential Child Care and then the first Chair
of the Scottish Institute for Residential Child Care. He was
the first Chair of the Institute for Research and Innovation in the
Social Services. He served as a member of the UK Advisory Committee
on the Misuse of Drugs and was Vice Chair of Scotland Against
Drugs. He took up an appointment as Chair of the Parole Board for
Scotland in 2006 and held this office until 2013. He was also a
Board member of the State Hospitals Board for Scotland. In
2013, he was appointed as a Panel member for the Independent Jersey
Care Inquiry.
Currently Sandy is Chair of SACRO, Chair of the Centre for Youth
and Criminal Justice at Strathclyde University and a non executive
Director of Care Visions Group Ltd.
He is a visiting professor at Strathclyde University and was
appointed CBE in the Birthday Honours 2000
